WORKSHOPS

FOR THOSE NEW TO PLEIN AIR PAINTING

PLEIN AIR BOOTCAMP

If you've never painted outdoors, you'll want to attend a plein air bootcamp! As with all Sunday Painter events, there is no cost for attending this course.

This course provides you with the direction you need to prepare for painting from nature.

Artists who take "Plein Air Boot Camp" will learn how to tackle changing light conditions, how to prepare to create art outdoors, strategies to paint outside, and will receive personal instruction. Once artists have completed this course, they will feel more confident in attending the Sunday Painter weekly outdoor workshops.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND A PLEIN AIR BOOTCAMP?
Many artists want to paint landscapes en plein air but are overwhelmed by the preparation, intimidated by logistical challenges, building a portable art kit, as well as the complexity of depicting changing natural light.

This studio workshop class will help artists new to outdoor painting gain the basic foundation needed to paint from nature. This is an indoor class designed to prepare students for painting outdoors and takes place at the beginning of the Spring / Summer outdoor painting schedule.

 TOPICS COVERED

Painting outdoors "en plein air" can be particularly challenging given the quickly changing light and weather. This workshop is for you to ask questions about outdoor painting basics needed to tackle outdoor art making.
We will also cover what to include as well as what to omit from the artist's travel pack and each artist will receive personal instruction during the course.

 WHAT TO EXPECT

The instructor demonstrates how to approach the challenge of painting outside, the process of alla prima (direct) painting en plein air, and provides personalized help to each artist. Artists in this course will learn a basic approach to direct painting from nature, preparing to paint outdoors, and hone their painting skills. Individual Assignment tailored to fit your personal interests give direction and support your development.
